About the Role

As a Program Manager, you will lead our Sustainable Solid Waste Management Project, a transformative initiative focused on waste management challenges in urban poor settlements. This role involves collaboration with residents, the BBMP waste collection team, and corporate partners, contributing to behavioral change and long-term impact.

Responsibilities

Phase 1 - Behavioral Change:

  1. Waste Collection:

    • Efficiently coordinate waste collection efforts with BBMP and local authorities.

    • Optimize waste collection processes for effectiveness and resource efficiency.

  2. Source Segregation Advocacy:

    • Design and implement incentive programs for 100% source segregation.

    • Drive community education initiatives for consistent SWM best practices.

  3. Garbage Dump Cleanup:

    • Organize and lead cleanup drives with active community and volunteer participation.

    • Develop and implement strategies to reduce and prevent the formation of garbage dumps.

  4. Waste Redirection:

    • Establish effective systems to redirect waste to processing centers, reducing reliance on landfills.

    • Regularly monitor and optimize waste redirection initiatives.

  5. Community-Government Synergy:

    • Foster strong collaboration between the community and local authorities for sustainable waste management.

    • Empower citizens with knowledge and tools to independently practice responsible waste management.

Phase 2 - Long-Term Impact:

  1. Circular Economy Implementation:

    • Lead initiatives to establish a circular economy within the community.

    • Implement programs focusing on composting, biogas generation, and efficient recycling.

  2. Waste Reduction Strategies:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for achieving 100% reduction in landfill waste.

    • Focus on reducing the generation of non-recyclable waste through targeted interventions.

  3. Livelihood Opportunities:

    • Create sustainable livelihoods by promoting waste upcycling and collaboration with local businesses.

    • Work towards economic empowerment within the community.

  4. Zero Garbage Dumping Sites:

    • Strive for a clean community with zero instances of garbage dumping.

    • Implement and oversee ongoing maintenance and cleanliness measures.

Requirements

  1. Proven project management experience in waste management or community development.

  2. Understanding of urban poor settlements, waste management, and sustainable practices.

  3. Team management is very crucial

  4. Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, urban planning, or a related field.

  5. Speak Kannada fluently.

  6. Should know how to drive a 4 wheeler.

  7. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

  8. Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

  9. Fundamental computer skills encompassing proficiency in MS Office suite, internet navigation, and Google suite
